Turkey issues license to Rosatom to build Akkuyu’s 3rd reactor

ANKARA, Nov 17 (PRIME) -- The Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Ministry has issued a license for Russian state nuclear power corporation Rosatom to build a third reactor unit of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant, the ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.

“A license has been issued for construction of the third unit of the Akkuyu NPP. The first reactor will be launched in 2023, and our energy portfolio will be more diversified thanks to the new source of power,” the ministry said.

The Akkuyu plant is to comprise four units with a capacity of 1,200 megawatts each. Turkey expects to start commercial use of the first unit in May 2024. The launch of the second unit for commercial use is expected in May 2025.
